We’ve long known that increasing ocean acidification, primarily the byproduct of climate change - oceans taking in more and more atmospheric carbon dioxide – posed a risk to coral reefs and shellfish. To state the obvious, ocean acidification is a threat to all marine ecosystems, a source of livelihoods for millions and 17% of our protein. This new study finds that we are crossing a “planetary boundary” that will result in “unacceptable environmental change.”
